Families

At Kaizen Karate & Martial Arts, family members don’t just watch from the sidelines, they train together.
We celebrate all kinds of families and learners. Whether you’re training with your immediate family, your chosen family, or flying solo, Kaizen Karate is a community that welcomes you just as you are. Our classes adapt to meet you where you are — whether recovering from injury, new to martial arts, or looking for a fresh challenge. No matter your age, fitness level, or background, you’ll find a supportive, inclusive environment that celebrates all identities and abilities.
Training together strengthens more than muscles, it strengthens relationships.
When parents and kids share the dojo floor, something special happens:
In a world that often pulls families in different directions, karate offers a place to focus, move, reconnect and grow together.
Kaizen Karate & Martial Arts is a family-run dojo, led by family members who live the same values they teach.
Our “family teaching family” philosophy means that every student — whether they come alone or with loved ones — is welcomed into a supportive community that feels like home.
We believe in meeting each person where they are and we adapt techniques and exercises to suit every age, fitness level, and ability, so everyone can participate and succeed.
Each class blends the core elements of Kenpo Karate:
Training together allows families to see each other’s progress in real time — and celebrate it together.
Our family program helps each person improve fitness, focus, and self-discipline, while fostering empathy and teamwork across generations.
Parents and kids alike discover that karate is about more than physical skill — it’s about confidence, character, and community.
We proudly welcome families and individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. Whether you come as a family of two or a family of one, you’ll find a place here.
All of our classes are mixed-age and family-friendly, so adults and kids train side by side. Whether you are bringing your family to the dojo or joining as an individual, we believe learning together brings out the best in everyone:
As a family-run dojo, we live by the phrase “family teaching family.” Our instructors, parents and children who train together, understand the joy and challenge of learning as a team. That same spirit extends to every student who walks through our doors. Whether you come on your own or with loved ones, you’ll become part of a community that feels like family from your very first class.
The best way to understand what makes Kaizen Karate & Martial Arts special is to experience it for yourself.

Am I too old for this?
No, martial arts is for everyone, regardless of age.
Do I need prior martial arts experience?
No, beginners are welcome! Some adults join who have trained in the past, but many are new to martial arts.
What is a typical class like?
Classes combine traditional techniques, practical self-defense, mobility, and strength training, all with a focus on deeply understanding the movements and their purpose.
What is sparring?
Sparring is a controlled practice fight that helps in refining your techniques and reactions. It utilizes light touch and helps develop reaction speed, timing and distance.
is karate dangerous?
With proper training and precautions, martial arts is a safe practice for physical and mental growth.
How old do kids have to be to begin training?
It really depends on the child. Classes are about an hour and the kid needs to be able to stay mostly present during that time. It's ok if a child needs to step out of class for any reason, but they can't be disrupting other students or behaving in a way that is unsafe for themselves or others.
I have an injury. Can I do karate?
Yes, we adapt to you. Your training is tailored to meet your needs. As with any physical activity, be sure to check in with your medical care team before you begin.
What gear do I need?
You'll need a gi (uniform), which we'll provide before your first class.
Does this encourage violence?
No, our focus is on self-defense, personal growth, and understanding—never on aggression.
Do I need to spar?
It's not mandatory. We encourage it for those who are comfortable and ready.
Is it just for guys?
Absolutely not! Our community welcomes people of all genders and backgrounds.
